Limited Germany visa processing resumes in India

After a prolonged suspension of visa services due to COVID-19, VFS in India is resuming certain Germany visa types’ processing at select visa application centres on 17 August.

From Monday 17 August, VFS Global in India will resume accepting applications from Indian nationals looking to immigrate to Germany, the first resumption of visa services since the Coronavirus lockdown.

Currently, the limited visa processing services will be made available in Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad from 17 August.

VFS Chennai and Hyderabad to resume Germany Schengen type D and C visa processing in India

The VFS statement issued today announced that certain Schengen D and C visa applications will be accepted from Monday 17 August.

The statement said: “Effective 17 Aug 2020, customers can submit Visa Applications at The Germany Visa Application Centre in Chennai and Hyderabad, India for the following Visa categories only after taking an appointment at VFS.”

The selected Schengen D Visa categories include:

  • Students who are recipients of a full Scholarship paid by an official German Academic Institution
  • Scientists, PhD, Doctorate and Post-Doctorate Students holding a binding and unconditional admission letter (“unbeschränkte Zulassung”) or work contract/hosting agreement (Aufnahmevereinbarung) from a German University or Institution.
  • Master students holding a binding and unconditional admission letter (“unbeschränkte Zulassung”) from a German university and a separate confirmation letter from the university that their personal presence in Germany is required for the course.

In addition certain Schengen C visa applications will be accepted as well.

Details on how to book a German visa appointment in Chennai and Hyderabad have been made available.

VFS confirmed that Schengen C Visa Categories that cover “Transit visa, seafarer, spouses and long term partners of German Nationals, spouses of EU nationals and Third Country Nationals with Permanent Residence in Germany for Family Visit Visas” will be open for application at the VFS Germany Visa Application Centre in Chennai and Hyderabad.

VFS German Visa Application Centre in Mumbai will offer very limited visa services for now

VFS German Visa Application Centre in Mumbai said that the “The Consulate [of Germany] in Mumbai will now accept applications in the below mentioned categories and you can start taking your appointments with VFS in Mumbai for submission in these categories from 17th august 2020.”

The categories are Transit Visa,Seafarer and Students (for Scholarship holders & PhD / Post-Doc studies / scientists).

VFS also shared details on how to book a German visa appointment in Mumbai.

The German student visa applications in Mumbai would however be limited to specific international student applicants.

VFS said: “In order to qualify for a student visa appointment, you will need to ensure that you have received a full scholarship offered by an official German academic institution or are enrolled in a PHD/post doctorate/scientist course in Germany. Students who are party funded by a scholarship for their course will not qualify for submission at this moment in time.”
