Tier 4 visa extension for Chinese students proposed

The National Union of Students (NUS) has called for an automatic extension of Tier 4 visa issued to Chinese students pursuing education in the UK amongst other measures to help them during the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak has caused significant disruption to classrooms across the world and several institutions within the UK have closed campuses as well.

International students, particularly Chinese students, find themselves in problematic circumstances with exam postponements, closure of student housing facilities, and the issue of their Tier 4 student visas running out.

University of Huddersfield to open new London campus

University of Huddersfield has announced that it has joined hands with Study Group to open a new campus in London.

From September 2020, Study Group will deliver University of Huddersfield’s postgraduate degree curriculum to international students in the new campus based in Greenwich.

The postgraduate business degrees provided in the London campus will be same as those offered in the University’s home campus.

93% increase in Indians who got UK study visas

Over 37,500 Indian students received UK study visas in 2019, a 93% increase from last year’s number.

The latest UK Immigration Statistics, which was published last week, revealed that this is the largest number of UK study visas which have been issued to Indian students across the previous eight years.

This rise denotes the continuation of the strong upward trend in UK student visa numbers for Indians, which has continued to grow since 2016.

UKIBC study reveals top barriers to deeper UK-India HE collaboration

The United Kingdom’s immigration policy and India’s higher education policy have been found to be the top barriers toward establishing deeper UK-India HE collaboration, a UKIBC study has found.

A report published by the UK-India Business Council (UKIBC) titled Higher Education Collaboration: Futureproofing the UK India Partnership has looked at the benefits that UK Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) gain from India and the barriers that are currently in the way of deeper collaboration.

The report draws from an initial survey of 67 higher education institutions across the UK.
