Sri Lanka plans special economic zone for international education

The government of Sri Lanka announced that it has ambitious plans to set up a special economic zone for international education to attract foreign students to the country.

Sri Lanka hopes to attract foreign and non-resident students to the country by setting up a Board of Investment (BOI) approved “free trade zone” of education international universities.

The government is aiming to position Sri Lanka as an international education hub with campuses of world-renowned universities in the trade zone.

Sri Lanka and Maldives deal to relax mutual visa rules

The governments of Sri Lanka and the Maldives are set to relax reciprocal visa rules as they sign four agreements alongside Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s official visit to the archipelago this week.

Alongside relaxation of visa rules, the deals to be signed will cover a cover a variety of core areas including higher education, skills development and training for citizens of the two countries.
