English Australia requests $87 million Coronavirus rescue package

The CEO of English Australia has written to the Australian Prime Minister requesting a $87 million rescue package for the country’s English language training sector.

The onset of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is obliterating Australia’s English language training sector (ELICOS) and if the government does not intervene, experts claim that many high end educational institutes would be forced to close.

According to English Australia, their CEO wrote to the Australian Prime Minister and has requested a rescue package of $87 million to help them get through these troubling times.

Australia seeks to become top English language study destination

The government of Australia has unveiled a new sector strategy with the aim to establish itself as a top, world-class English language study destination for international students.

The Department of Education and Training’s (DET) new sector strategy - English Language Teaching International Engagement Strategy 2025 - has noted that it recognises the key role that English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS) plays in relation to Australia’s education exports.
