Simon Business School seeks to attract Chinese students

The University of Rochester’s Simon Business School is looking to expand its recruitment of Chinese students to provide them better international experiences via specialised degree programmes.

This marks a further development at the school since they became one of the few top business schools in the United States to offer STEM-Designated part-time MBA options.

As a top five school for economics and finance in the US, the school offers both master’s and MBA programmes to students worldwide.

Adelaide launches A$5000 scholarship for Sri Lanka students

An Ambassadors scholarship programme for students in Sri Lanka has been launched in Adelaide by Government of South Australia’s education promotion agency StudyAdelaide.

The competition offers an opportunity for students to become ambassadors of Adelaide, as well as an education and lifestyle experiential tour of Adelaide.

The winning Sri Lanka students candidates will receive a scholarship support package for Adelaide valued at A$5,000 per student, including airfares, living allowance and free access to key festivals and events, allowing students to fully soak up the educational and lifestyle experience of the city.

Study in Israel initiative launched to double number of foreign students

The Council for Higher Education in Israel (CHE) has officially launched Study in Israel to double the number of foreign students enrolled in the country’s colleges and universities, initially targeting students in North America, China and India.

Presently, 12,000 foreign students currently study in Israel.

The Study in Israel initiative touts high Israeli academic standards and distinctive, engaged approach to education with the theme “Engage in Excellence”.

International students boost Gold Coast economy

The international education and training sector generated A$988 million from foreign students for Australia’s Gold Coast economy in 2018, a growth of 18%, a report from Deloitte Access Economics has stated.

The data revealed that Brazil, China, and India, were the biggest supplier of international students to the Gold Coast, with the sector supporting 4,730 local jobs.

The knock-on effect of international students in the Gold Coast region was that more than 6,200 friends and family of students travelled to the area across the year, generating a further $21 million in tourism revenue.

Australia student visa now harder to get for India and Pakistan

The Australia student visa requirements for those applying from India, Pakistan and Nepal have been tightened by the Australian government.

The assessment category for international students applying for a student visa to study in Australia has been raised from Level 2 to Level 3, which entails more strict scrutiny to qualify.

Australia student visa applications are based on individual merits including educational qualifications, financial requirements and proficiency in English language.

Philippines pushes for deeper Russia education cooperation

Leonor Briones, Education Secretary of the Philippines, co-opened the ASEAN-Russia Forum in Moscow this month, expressing the country’s intent to explore areas for deeper cooperation, especially in education, between the two countries.

At the forum, ongoing education best practices in basic, technical, and higher, education among ASEAN countries and Russia were discussed and areas for deeper cooperation in various endeavours were explored.

Sent by President Rodrigo Duterte, Briones was among the high officials giving opening remarks.

Dubai students should have work experience before graduation: officials

Officials in Dubai have stated that school students should be allowed access to universities and workplaces for advanced learning and work experience for Dubai students before graduating from high school.

These comments came during the launch of ‘Centres of Excellence’, a programme of GEMS Education, which will see GEMS school students earn qualifications and credentials from partner universities and employers.

Founded in 1959, today GEMS owns and operates 56 schools in the UAE and the Gulf region, and educates over 130,000 students.

Second Indo-French Knowledge Summit to be held in Lyon

The second Indo-French Knowledge Summit is to take place at the Universite de Lyon in France. The summit’s focus is to be higher education, research and innovation.

This contributes to the continued enhancement of education cooperation between the two nations that we reported on in August this year.

Organised by the Embassy of France in India in partnership with Universite de Lyon, Campus France, and Emlyon Business School on the French side, and the Ministries of Science and Technology and Human Resource Development (MHRD) on the Indian side, the event will be inaugurated by ministers from both French and Indian governments.
