Online learning platform Preply has announced that it has raised an extra $10 million in funding to finance its expansion, doubling its previous fundraising total.

Preply plans to invest the $10 million funding into: the growth of its network of 10,000 tutors; scaling its marketplace; introducing new tools, assessment and homework functions; and developing their mobile applications.

In a $2 billion deal, Thoma Bravo has acquired Utah-based educational software maker Instructure, with the acquisition is expected to come in to effect in the next few months.

In December last year, private equity investment firm Thoma Bravo purchased Instructure in a cash transaction worth approximately $2 billion.

Nexford University has announced that it will be offering scholarships to women for their MBA and BBA degree courses as part of its support for Equal Pay Day.

The Office of National Statistics reported on 29 October 29 that the gender pay gap currently stands at 17.3%, based on a median average, with this data leading to the derivation of this year’s date.

Equal Pay Day is a symbolic day dedicated to raising awareness of the gender pay gap, which stands to represent the day upon which a woman’s salary is no longer equal to a man’s. This year, Equal Pay Day was marked on 14 November.

Online coding school Codemao secures $57 million funding

Chinese online education platform Codemao has announced this week that 400 million yuan ($57 million) has been secured in a Series C round of financing led by the Russia-China Investment Fund.

Codemao specialises in offering online coding classes to children and young adults.

Also joining this round of funding were Hillhouse Capital; Asia-focused private equity firm SAIF Partners; Everbright New Economy USD Fund, a $483-million investment platform of Hong Kong-based financial services company China Everbright Limited; and Chinese state-owned Guangdong Technology Financial Group.
