Australia lifts work restrictions for foreign student nurses

The ease of restrictions, concerning the foreign student nurses working hours, comes as part of an effort by the government of Australia to ease the pressure placed on their aged care sector under the strain of the global Coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak.

International students in Australia’s Northern Territory up 62% since 2016

The number of international students in the Northern Territory has increased by 62% in 3 years, the Australian territory’s Chief Minister Michael Gunner has stated.

Chief Minister Gunner noted that international students and the education sector remain a key area of focus for the territory’s government, and recognised the role it plays in contributing to the economy and creating jobs in the region.

At the end of 2019, there are 3300 international students in the Northern Territory. This constituted an increase of 1270 students since 2016’s figure of 2030, a growth of 62 per cent.

An Ambassadors scholarship programme for students in Sri Lanka has been launched in Adelaide by Government of South Australia’s education promotion agency StudyAdelaide.

The competition offers an opportunity for students to become ambassadors of Adelaide, as well as an education and lifestyle experiential tour of Adelaide.

The winning Sri Lanka students candidates will receive a scholarship support package for Adelaide valued at A$5,000 per student, including airfares, living allowance and free access to key festivals and events, allowing students to fully soak up the educational and lifestyle experience of the city.

International students boost Gold Coast economy

The international education and training sector generated A$988 million from foreign students for Australia’s Gold Coast economy in 2018, a growth of 18%, a report from Deloitte Access Economics has stated.

The data revealed that Brazil, China, and India, were the biggest supplier of international students to the Gold Coast, with the sector supporting 4,730 local jobs.

The knock-on effect of international students in the Gold Coast region was that more than 6,200 friends and family of students travelled to the area across the year, generating a further $21 million in tourism revenue.
