ICOS calls for revamp of Ireland’s international students strategy

Ireland’s foreign student support body, ICOS – the Irish Council for International Students, has called on the country’s government to fine tune its approach towards international students.

ICOS noted that the current strategy for international students focuses more on the educational and financial aspects, and neglects to consider the welfare and rights of international students.

With the current strategy expiring and a new government set to be formed, ICOS has submitted a manifesto to consider the holistic well-being of international students in Ireland in addition to their financial importance.

New Zealand Centre to be established in IIT Delhi

Education New Zealand (ENZ) has announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi (IIT Delhi) to establish a New Zealand Centre.

The New Zealand Centre is envisioned by ENZ to become a point of collaborative academic activity with IIT Delhi for eight NZ universities in India.

The New Zealand universities participating in the establishment of the New Zealand Centre in IIT Delhi include AUT University, University of Auckland, Massey University, University of Waikato, Victoria University of Wellington, University of Otago, University of Canterbury and Lincoln University.

Monash university announced that it had been granted approval by the Government of Indonesia to establish the country’s first foreign university campus.

In the Spring of 2019, Intead and Unibuddy collaborated and analysed 370,000+ peer-to-peer conversations (through the Unibuddy system) amongst 26,000+ prospective students from 57 countries.

While the US is the top ‘dream’ destination, the research found that, rounding out the Top 3 choices, the other desirable study abroad destinations were the UK and Canada.
