Simon Business School seeks to attract Chinese students

The University of Rochester’s Simon Business School is looking to expand its recruitment of Chinese students to provide them better international experiences via specialised degree programmes.

This marks a further development at the school since they became one of the few top business schools in the United States to offer STEM-Designated part-time MBA options.

As a top five school for economics and finance in the US, the school offers both master’s and MBA programmes to students worldwide.

United States becoming less popular for study abroad

The popularity of the United States as a study abroad destination for international students has decreased, according to CarringtonCrisp’s Business of Branding study conducted in association with EFMD.

Of those responding to the study, 50% considered the United States as a study abroad destination, a continued decline from 62% in 2018 and 67% in 2017.

Despite this decrease, it remains the top study destination world along with the UK, which has also decreased from 52% to 50% in the last year.

Startse, a Brazilian education platform, has launched a new centre in Silicon Valley as part of a push for global expansion that will happen over the coming months.

With a focus on training programmes geared at the new economy and corporate innovation projects, Startse has been present in Silicon Valley of the last couple of years with a team of ten operating from a coworking space.

The firm’s new Palo Alto office in Silicon Valley, Startse University, launched on 14 October. The facility is to host corporate missions and workshops for up to 40 people and features an artificial intelligence lab.

Foreign students have become essential to Hawaii, having brought in $447 million to its economy, according to a report from the state Department of Business Economic development and Tourism released last week.

Dubbed the ‘Economic Impact of International Students in Hawaii – 2019 Update”, the report outlined ways in which international students both directly and indirectly poured money into Hawaii’s economic pot last year.

The $446.7 million of revenue generated by international students is broken down thus: $216.9 million came from direct spending, $197.3 million from generated household income and $34.3 million came in the form of state taxes.
