PSI Skills For English test receives UKVI approval
PSI Services and SQA’s jointly-created Skills For English test has received UKVI approval as a Secure English Language Test (SELT).
The approval comes after PSI and the UK Home Office reached a commercial arrangement, which allows the assessment service provider to deliver the SELT to UK visa applicants overseas.
PSI Skills For English test can now be used for all types of visa applications
Starting later this year, students across the world will be able to access PSI’s online global test centre network.
PSI Services is a global technological provider of assessment services, and the SQA is Scotland’s national awarding and accreditation body.
Now that this approval has been received, the Skills for English test can now be used for all types of visa applications where an individual is required to demonstrate proficiency in English language.
The tests will first become available in China and Hong Kong after October
Although the implementation of this newly approved English language test has, inevitably, been affected by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tests areue to launch in the next few months.
Bookings for test sessions will first become available in China and Hong Kong this October, before expanding to reach a further 120 countries the following month.
This latest development from PSI further reinforces their presence in the global secure testing market. Currently, PSI delivers assessments to over 15 million individuals, across over 2,000 testing locations across 160 countries.
Janet Garcia, Executive Vice President of PSI’s Global Credentialing Division, expressed her pleasure at achieving UKVI approval: “This is a major milestone for our Skills For English™ brand which we created jointly with SQA. The UKVI-approval is widely acknowledged as the hallmark of an effective, high-quality qualification, and we are thrilled now to be able offer a Skills for English (UKVI) test.”
John McMorris, Director of Business Development at SQA, likewise stated: “This approval is the culmination of an intense period of work between ourselves and PSI to create a qualification that can service the needs of those seeking to work, study, or settle in English-speaking countries. Having a UKVI-approved SELT is a major achievement, and we will be working hard to build out the Skills for English brand for a range of other purposes.”
