In an effort to spread awareness about the pandemic, FutureLearn and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine have collaborated to launch a free online course – COVID-19: Tackling the Novel Coronavirus.
The course focuses on the outbreak of Covid-19 and what is known about the outbreak till date.
The course will also talk about the response actions to the virus, preventive measures for its spread, and what the future holds.
Anyone, whether they are working in the healthcare system or they just want general information, can enrol in the course which was launched on the 23rd of March. It will run for three weeks and will require around four hours per week of study time.
Simon Nelson, Chief Executive at FutureLearn, said: “Our purpose is to transform access to education. For me, that means working with institutions like the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine to support them to get information out into the public domain as quickly as possible that is accessible all over the world.
“When [FutureLearn] worked with [LSHTM] on the Ebola course, we saw the impact. We played a small part in helping with the response to Ebola and we’re pleased to be able to support with the response to Coronavirus.”
The course will be conducted by Dr Anna Seale and Dr Maryirene Ibeto from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Dr Seale believes that since it is a worldwide disease, a worldwide effort is needed to combat it. Dr Ibeto suggests that the best way to stop the virus in its track is by using the knowledge about the virus that the frontline workers have and pooling it together.
